About the Pont-Audemer Spaniel

The Pont-Audemer Spaniel is used to hunt a variety of fowl. They are a medium size dog. It's a rustic and courageous dog, a faithful companion who is intelligent and unique.

Because of its physique and its relative rarity, the Pont-Audemer Spaniel undoubtedly holds the prize for originality. With his curly crest covering the top of his head and his long ears, well trimmed with wavy silk, he seems to be wearing a "great century" wig, perfectly framing his head. Its dense fur allows it to resist water in the coldest temperatures and to face the thickest thickets and brush. The Pont-Audemer is above all a hunting dog. They are hardy and hard working, but have the Spaniel traits of being gentle, affectionate and easy to train. Originally developed to hunt water fowl in the marsh they are water specialists but also experts at pointing and flushing putting them in the Pointing Dog groups in other registries. They have respectable tracking skills, are strong in their field search, water work and retrieving abilities. Pontos are medium sized and adapt very well to urban life if they are allowed long regular outings to let off steam for their physical and mental balance. Their instinctual cautiousness should not be mistaken for timidness. They thrive on lots of love and sincerity from their family. They have blind confidence in us and its up to us not to disappoint them. They are thrilled to be up before dawn to head out for a good hunt but just as happy to get home at the end of their day to cuddle with their family. They are a rustic and courageous dog, a faithful and cheerful companion!
